Airstream Trade Wind FAQ
What are the dimensions of an Airstream Trade Wind?
The Airstream Trade Wind is available in two different floor plans: the 23FB and the 25FB. Both travel trailers come equipped with a 3-inch lift kit that provides extra ground clearance for exploring beyond traditional campgrounds.
Trade Wind 23FB:
- Exterior Length: 23 feet 11 inches
- Exterior Width: 8 feet
- Exterior Height (with A/C and Lift Kit): 9 feet 10.5 inches
- Interior Width: 7 feet 7 inches
- Bed Dimensions: Queen 60 inches x 75 inches or Twin 34 inches x 80 inches
Trade Wind 25FB:
- Exterior Length: 26 feet 2 inches
- Exterior Width: 8 feet 5.5 inches
- Exterior Height (with A/C and Lift Kit): 10 feet
- Interior Width: 8 feet 1 inch
- Interior Height (with A/C): 6 feet 7 inches
- Bed Dimensions: Queen 60 inches x 75 inches or Twin 34 inches x 80 inches
Both layouts let you choose between a queen bed or twin beds in the bedroom. Choosing the twin bed configuration opens up the center aisle, giving you more walking space throughout the interior. The lift kit provides better clearance for dirt roads and uneven terrain, perfect for Florida's state forests and remote camping spots.
How many people does an Airstream Trade Wind sleep?
The Trade Wind 23FB can sleep up to four people, while the Trade Wind 25FB can sleep up to five people. Both models feature:
- A queen bed (60 inches x 75 inches) or twin beds (34 inches x 80 inches) in the rear bedroom
- A convertible dinette that turns into additional sleeping space
The 23FB has a U-shaped dinette up front that converts into a bed for guests. The 25FB offers a larger dinette area with room for one more person. Both options give you plenty of flexibility whether you're traveling as a couple, bringing the family, or hosting friends on your camping adventures.
What kind of vehicle do I need to tow an Airstream Trade Wind?
To safely tow a Trade Wind, you'll need a vehicle with adequate towing capacity. Here are the key weights you need to know:
Trade Wind 23FB:
- Unit Base Weight: 6,200 pounds (with LP and batteries)
- Hitch Weight: 885 pounds
- GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 6,300 pounds
Trade Wind 25FB:
- Unit Base Weight: 6,200 pounds (with LP and batteries)
- Hitch Weight: 885 pounds
- GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 7,300 pounds
Your tow vehicle should have a towing capacity that exceeds these GVWR numbers. For the 23FB, you'll want at least 7,000 pounds of towing capacity. For the 25FB, look for at least 8,000 pounds or higher. Most mid-size and full-size trucks, SUVs, and some larger crossovers can handle these weights comfortably.
You'll also need a weight distribution hitch system for proper towing safety. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual for its specific towing capacity and requirements. If you're unsure about whether your vehicle is a good match, the team at Airstream of Tampa can help guide you to the right choice.

What is the learning curve for owning an Airstream Trade Wind?
The good news is that the learning curve for owning an Airstream Trade Wind is reasonable, even if this is your first RV. While there's information to learn, most new owners feel comfortable with their trailer after just a few camping trips.
When you purchase from Airstream of Tampa, you'll receive a detailed delivery walkthrough that covers all the systems and features. We recommend taking your first trip to a campground within a couple hours of Dover. This allows you to learn your trailer in a comfortable environment without being too far from home.
Main things to learn include:
- Setting up and leveling your trailer at your campsite
- Connecting utilities (electric, water, and sewer connections)
- Understanding the electrical system and monitoring your batteries
- Using the Smart Control Technology app on your smartphone
- Basic maintenance like inspecting seals and checking tire pressure
- Preparing your trailer for storage between trips
The Trade Wind includes features that simplify RV ownership, like four manual heavy-duty stabilizer jacks, a powered hitch jack with light, and Airstream Smart Control Technology that lets you monitor and control systems from your phone. These modern features reduce the learning curve compared to older RV models.
Airstream offers extensive online resources through Airstream Academy, with videos, articles, and answers to frequently asked questions. Plus, every new Airstream comes with three years of Coach-Net 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is always available when you need it.
Most owners report that while the first trip involves some learning, by the second or third outing, everything becomes second nature. The key is being patient with yourself and remembering that every Airstream owner was once a beginner too.
Does owning an Airstream Trade Wind make sense living in Florida?
Absolutely! Florida is a fantastic state for Airstream ownership, and the Trade Wind is particularly well-suited for Florida camping and outdoor adventures.
Year-Round Camping: Florida offers camping opportunities twelve months a year. The state's warm climate means you can camp during any season, from beach camping along both coasts to exploring the Everglades and state forests. Winter is actually prime camping season in Florida, when temperatures are comfortable and humidity is lower.
Outdoor Activities: Florida is home to three national parks, over 170 state parks, and countless campgrounds. The Trade Wind's size makes it easy to navigate Florida's varied camping locations, from beachfront RV parks to inland forest sites. Whether you're kayaking in crystal-clear springs, fishing in the Gulf, or exploring nature trails, the Trade Wind fits perfectly into the Florida outdoor lifestyle.
Off-Grid Power: The Trade Wind comes standard with 600 watts of solar panels and a substantial 810Ah lithium battery bank. Florida's abundant sunshine makes these solar panels incredibly effective year-round. You can run the air conditioner and microwave simultaneously without being plugged into shore power, which is especially valuable during hot Florida days and nights.
Equipment Features: The Trade Wind's 30,000 BTU ducted furnace and air conditioning with heat pump handle Florida's climate perfectly. The air conditioning is especially important for Florida's warm weather and humidity. The 3-inch suspension lift kit and rugged Goodyear Wrangler tires let you access dirt forest roads and remote camping areas throughout the state. The rear hatch door makes it simple to load fishing gear, kayaks, and beach equipment.
Local Support: With Airstream of Tampa located right in Dover, you have convenient local service and support. This makes maintenance, repairs, and upgrades easy throughout your ownership, without having to travel far from home.
Storage Considerations: Florida's mild winters mean you don't need to winterize your trailer like owners in northern states. Many Tampa area owners keep their Trade Wind at home or in nearby storage facilities, ready to hit the road whenever the mood strikes. However, you'll want to ensure your storage location protects against Florida's occasional severe weather.
The Trade Wind's aluminum construction and quality insulation handle Florida's heat and humidity well. From weekend trips to the Keys to extended stays in the Panhandle, this Airstream is built for the Florida camping lifestyle.
